2nd November 2015: There Are No Monsters makes the WSFF Official Selection
The Official Selection (aka Final Short List) for the 2015 Winchester Short Film Festival has been announced. There Are No Monsters has been dropped from The Hampshire Prize category (there were 30 films nominated in this category on the Initial Short List) but remains nominated in the Best Drama (under 5 minutes) and the Best Short Film (under 5 minutes) categories.
28th October 2015: Winchester Short Film Festival Initial Shortlist announced
After making the Long List, we are delighted to report that There Are No Monsters has been nominated in three categories on the Initial Short List: Best Short Film (under 5 minutes), Best Drama Short (under 5 minutes) and The Hampshire Prize. The Final Short List is scheduled to be announced on 2nd November.
18th September 2015: New film project
Burning Barn Films will shortly be embarking on a horror short entitled There Are No Monsters. With a cast of two (one adult, one child), the project will be made on an extremely short schedule and with a quick post-production turnaround. It is hoped the film will be complete in time for it to be entered into the Winchester Short Film Festival before the October 15th deadline.
21st August 2015: Surprise shortlisted at Eastleigh Short Film Festival
Last year's film Surprise was entered into 2015 Eastleigh Short Film Festival and Burning Barn Films has just received word that it has made the final ten shortlist. If it is further shortlisted to the final four it will be shown as part of the Eastleigh Film Festival Industry Day on 24th September. The two overall winning films will be announced at the winner's ceremony on the 24th.
12th May 2015: Delay to Posies post-production
Jim Glaister of Burning Barn Films has been asked to direct a theatre production at the Chesil Theatre in Winchester. His chosen play will be One For The Road by Willy Russell . Performances will be in September and auditions are being held in June. This project is likely to delay post-production work on A Pocketful of Posies until the autumn.

Principal photography on A Pocketful of Posies wrapped at 5.30pm after shooting all afternoon in a smelly, dirty, damp but wonderfully atmospheric derelict building in Gosport!
13th April 2015: A Pocketful of Posies
Principal photography for our latest film project, now titled A Pocketful of Posies, begins today. Based on improvisations by the extremely talented cast, the finished production is estimated to to have a running time of around 25mins, making it the longest film Burning Barn have made since The Visitor II in 2011.
8th February 2015: New film project
Burning Barn Films are about to embark on an exciting new project. The as yet unnamed film will be unlike anything Burning Barn have made before. Featuring an all-female cast, the project will be subject to a two-month rehearsal period that will see the initial stages of the story created through cast improvisations. Once the improvisation sessions are complete, Jim Glaister and Steve White, who came up with the initial story idea, will create a screenplay. Filming is scheduled to take place in April.
15th November 2014: Winchester Short Film Festival
Surprise took third place in the category for Best Original Screenplay at the Awards Ceremony held at the Winchester Discovery Centre this evening. Steve White and Jim Glaister attended the event and were pleased to receive many complimentary comments about the film from other filmmakers, judges and members of the audience.

5th November 2014: Surprise through to final round
Burning Barn Films are delighted to announce our film Surprise has made it through to the final round of the Winchester Short Film Festival and will be in competition with 26 other short films. Surprise has been nominated in two award categories: Best Drama and Best Original Screenplay. All 27 finalists are also eligible for the Best Short Film Award. The winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony to be held on the evening of Saturday 15th November at the Performance Hall, Winchester Discovery Centre.
20th October 2014: Winchester Short Film Festival
The first round of judging is complete with over 150 entries being whittled down to an initial shortlist of 58. Both Surprise and Something Out There have made it through to the initial shortlist. The final shortlist of 27 films will be announced on the 5th November.
5th October 2014: Update
Post-production on Surprise is complete. The initial cut of Something Out There is almost complete, though a great deal of grading work is still required. Both projects are to be entered into competition at the 2014 Winchester Short Film Festival before the deadline of 15th October. Both films will be made available on this website in early November.
28th September 2014: Something Out There - update
The 20th, the 27th and the 28th have seen the shooting of the music video Something Out There. It has been a challenging project, with a cast of 22 actors. This has been the largest cast Burning Barn Films has ever had to work with!
30th August 2014: New film project
The dust has barely settled on shooting Surprise (which is still in post-production) and Burning Barn Films have embarked on a new project. This will be unlike anything Burning Barn have worked on before. It will be a short film to accompany a song called Something Out There, which is performed by the band Hornblower Down (www.facebook.com/hornblowerdown / twitter: @hornblower_down). The intention is for both Surprise and Something Out There to be submitted to the Winchester Short Film Festival this year.
16th August 2014: Surprise
Principal photography took place today on Surprise and progressed well. Jacob Elder has joined Burning Barn Films as Director of Photography on this project and his presence has contributed a great deal to the look of the film. Shooting completes on this project tomorrow.
27th July 2014: New film project
Pre-production has commenced on Burning Barn Films' latest project. Entitled Surprise it is a black comedy written by Jim Glaister and Steve White that focuses on one man's misunderstanding of the situation around him that leads to awful consequences. Principal photography is scheduled to take place next month and the completed film will be entered into the 2014 Winchester Short Film Festival.
22nd January 2014: A Serpent's Tooth - update
With post-production complete, Burning Barn Films entered their film A Serpent's Tooth into the reed.co.uk Short Film Competition. The film will be made available on this website during late February / early March 2014.

29th November 2013: New film project
Burning Barn Films will be entering the 2014 reed.co.uk Short Film Competition. Entries have to be less than three minutes in duration (which will make this the shortest BBF project to date) and utilise the theme 'Family Business'. A first draft script was completed today by Graham Cranmer and Jim Glaister with the title A Serpent's Tooth. As this title suggests, the film has been inspired by themes found in the works of Shakespeare, in particular King Lear and Macbeth. The intention is to take these themes and present them as a contemporary black comedy. The deadline for applications to the competition is the 22nd January 2014.
16th November 2013: Always wins prize
Burning Barn Films are delighted to announce that Always was the winner of the award for 'Short Film With Greatest Emotional Impact' at this year's Winchester Short Film Festival. Since it was made available online this week the response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive, with comments including: “short but bittersweet, thoroughly enjoyable”, “beautiful”, “fantastic piece of work “, “outstanding” and “beautifully simple but moving story... big thumbs up”. On receiving the award, Jim Glaister thanked his cast and crew, including Steve White who wrote such a magnificent score, for their invaluable contribution to the making of the film.

Burning Barn Films are pleased to announce that their most recent project, Always, is one of 22 films shortlisted for this year's Winchester Short Film Festival. Burning Barn Films have begun work on a new project, being made for entry into this year's Winchester Short Film Festival (formally the Jewry Street Short Film Festival). The project is called Always and has been written by Jim Glaister and Bea McIntosh, who was a student at last year's Filmmaking Workshops.
17th November 2012: Escape takes the top prize
Burning Barn's short film Escape has won the 'Best Short Film' Award at the Jewry Street Short Film Festival. Jim Glaister was delighted to receive the award and thanked his hard-working cast and crew for their invaluable contribution to the finished film.

Saturday 3rd March 2012: Film Workshop Three – Filmmaking part 1
The first of a two-part workshop, part 1 provides an introduction to practical filmmaking, including basic filmmaking techniques, types of camera shot, the importance of preparation and the role of the storyboard / shot list. The aim is to culminate in a short script that attendees can turn into a film during part 2.
Saturday 25th February 2012: Film Workshop Two – Editing
An introduction to digital editing, including an overview of the importance of the role of the film editor and an examination of basic film editing techniques. The key objective of this workshop is that all attendees will leave with a basic understanding of how to use editing software and the workshop will culminate in a practical editing exercise.
Saturday 4th February 2012: Film Workshop One – Scriptwriting
Forming an introduction to scriptwriting, the aim of the workshop is for each attendee to create a first draft script for a short film of no more than three minutes duration by the end of the day.
January 2012: Jessops’ The Shot Film Competition
Burning Barn Films are this month creating an entry for the Jessops’ The Shot Film Competition. The rules for entry are that the film must be titled The Shot, be of no more than 10 minutes’ duration and must be filmed on a digital stills camera. Burning Barn’s entry, written by Jim Glaister and Tom Maggs, will be available on this website sometime next month.
